- Et moi, que pourrais je faire?

The book of today is so beautiful that as soon as I saw it I couldn´t resist to take some photos of it for showing it here! The translation for the title would be "And I, what can I do?" and the illustrator is the talented Jesús Cisneros, from Spain... Oh his style is so poetic and simple (why is it simplest the illustrations the most beautiful I think they are?) Check out this beatufiul video of another of his book illustrations with a nice piano background.

I found a review of the book where you can see what it is about, the story has a very deep and human meaning that I really liked... Oh what a nice book is this!!!!

Btw... the Spanish Editorial house is OQO and I just cannot stop looooooving their books! what a nice work they do! one of my favorite Editorial houses! (applauses for their selection of story tellers, illustrators and books).

.............................................

- Elvis

So as I promised I´m back.... and now I had a great idea... I will go to the book store once a week and browse around the books I like and since I have not that much money to buy them I will take photos of them and show them here!!!

So, what do you think of my book-hunting-photo-taking idea?

........................................

- My explanation and 7 goats - Mi explicación y 7 cabritas

So I´m back!!! (I didn´t take that long this time ha???) I´m going to explain myself in this post. When I moved to Montreal I had to leave almost all my stuff in México, and when I say almost all, is really almost all... among the stuff I left behind were my dear books... and among them were my dearest children book collection. I moved once before from New York to México and in that trip I also had to leave behind my stuff... there are 16 boxes of books kept in a storage room somewhere in Manhattan with my oh so dearest children books collection. So that´s the story of my life... I´ve been moving around as a Gypsy and since Airlines fares are increasing their fares and lowering the kilos allowed in my suitcase it´s been impossible for me to be a Nomad with my children books. I´m not a material person but for me, my books are somehow part of me, they are my treasures and if I could bring something back, whatever I could choose from all my stuff (furniture, clothes, stationery, etc...) I would choose my books, and mainly my children books. So now in my studio I have only 3 children books and I keep looking at them once in a while to have that nice feeling I always have when I have a beautiful children book on my hands.

Well, that´s the reason why I haven´t been around this blog in the past few months, I guess it´s just a sadness to not have anything to say about... and it´s not the fact I don´t have books here, it is just a lack of inspiration... I don´t have a book store nearby, the books here are so expensive, I´ve been busy making dolls, I don´t know... A bunch of things all together...

This blog is really important for me, I have this dream of seeing in a book store a children book illustrated by me and to see many children reading it... and I admire many great illustrators who like me have that dream...

Sooooo.... since I hadn´t been around here for such a long time I was disheartened and for many weeks ponder on the idea of closing this blog for good and concentrate on my dolls and my life... to leave my children books love affair in the past as a good memory... And I almost did.

Yesterday, while walking downtown I bumped in to a bookstore which had the beautiful book “Elvis” from Rebecca Dautremer displayed in the window and I kept looking at it with a deep nostalgia... I went in. I took it, I look at it, I smelled it... ooooh I missed so much my books and that world I so much love... I went deeper into the bookstore (I felt like a little mouse going in the kitchen during the night time to rob some cheese from the fridge), I arrived to the children section and there they were... all those beautiful, gorgeous books I missed. I saw a couple of my favourite ones I left in Mexico and missed them even more.

Suddenly the most extraordinary thing happened. I saw this book called “Les sept chevreaux” (the 7 goats) and I couldn´t believe it! When I was a small tiny girl, my grandparents would tell my sister and me this story about 7 goats left alone in their house by their mama goat that had to go somewhere and told them not to open the door to anybody until she would come back. In the story there was this wolf that wanted to eat the goats and knock at the door, the 7 goats asked the wolf who he was and he said he was their mama goat so they asked to prove it by putting her hand under the door and when he does it they realize it is not their mama but the wolf... so the wolf goes away and gets some white globe and cooking flour to make his paw look white as a goat´s. He comes back and knocks again and this time when the goats see his hand they believe it is their mama´s hand so they open the door and next you know the wolf eats them all except for one who runs away to look for his mama goat and she comes back and saves the 6 goats (I don´t remember how) and finally they are all together safe and happy!!!

I always thought this story was invented by my grandparents and yesterday when I saw this book and its illustrations I almost cried... I couldn´t believe it is a real book and I immediately took some photos of the illustrations to post it; and that´s why I´ve decided I´m not closing this blog. I will keep going to bookstores every time I can and will take photos of the books I like to show them to you all... and to keep my dream and my inspiration alive!

Through this red blog I´ve met so many wonderful and talented persons around the world who like me love the children illustration world and I know many of you like to come and hang around so... there Cara Carmina is re-opening again with lots of inspiration...

(It feels so good to be back) Flying away now...

......................................................................................

- Dentro del libro - Inside the book

Uds. No???

Espero que las disfruten tanto como yo!!!!

..........................................................................

So here we are again!!! As promised here are the inside illustrations of one of the books I showed you in my previous post: “Fil de Fée” (Ed. Gautier Languereau) It is in French and according to my recent knowledge on the matter it translates something like “Fairy´s Daughter”... if anyone knows a better translation pleeeeeaaaaaseeeee.... do not hesitate in correcting me!!!!

The illustrations are from Aurelia Fronty and it is a pleasure just to look at them, each one is a wonderful painting filled with symbolisms and subtleties. It is an incredible book from a merely artistic point of view, as I cannot understand French yet, that gives me another perspective of the whole book, I feel like a kid who doesn´t know how to read yet… and I just look at the images… It is really beautiful…. I would love to have some of these illustrations in a huge canvas decorating my walls… wouldn´t you???

I hope you like them as much as I did!!!

(jejeje)

…………………………………………………….

So now that I moved, I had to leave all my beautiful books back in Mexico because they are too heavy… Looks like is in my destiny to leave my treasures in different parts of the world (In NYC I still have 17 boxes with books!!!) So as usual, I couldn’t stop visiting a book store here in Montreal as soon as I could and guess what I found?

These three wonderful treasures:

-La reve de Pablo (Pablo´s dream) from the great illustrator Pablo Auladell
-Le grand courant d’air (The great stream of air) from my very favorite Rebecca Dautremer
-Fil de Fée (Fairy´s daughter) from Aurelia Fronty

The three of them are in French and I don´t understand them completely, just a bit, but I already started my French lessons and I hope it won´t take too long until I can read them completely! For now, I walk around saying “oui” and “merci” hahaha…

So for now I leave you this beautiful book covers along with my high recommendation of the 3 of books… In the next few days I´ll tell you of each one of them separately and will gift you images from inside to make all of you smile!!!

Good night! And welcome to the first books of my new library!!!

Au revoir (hehehe)

- Serafin Cordero

…………………………………………………………………

Well, well… finally back and want to show you these treasures I found. As you well know is not easy to find some foreign children books here in Mexico, so when I find them is like finding something fabulous, at least it is for me! This time I found a new Rebecca Dautremer collection that is totally different to her usual work. There are a series of 4 books with the adventures of a cute character called “Serafin Cordero”.

When I was a little girl there was a song about Serafin Cordero, I guess is the same… The 4 books are so cute and I promise I will post some of the interior illustration in these coming days. I cannot stop admiring her work!!! If you can get them do not hesitate, they are really worth it!

It feels good to be back!!!

- El libro de hoy - The book of today

………………………………………………………………

Hello everyone, I know I have been absent for many days already, but sometimes inspiration goes away and one has to give it some time and motives to come back, that’s what happened. Last week was my 29th bday and that gave me a lot of reasons to meditate and think about so many things.

Just today, browsing around a wonderful blog full of birds and colors, the blog of Geninne, so many things came back to my head and to my heart and I’m back! (Thanks for the inspiration Geninne). Thanks to all of you who kept visiting and reading, and thanks for your words, they really feed my inspiration and my will!

And talking about inspiration yesterday I went to the book store… so much time not going… and it was worth it, because I found this great book. Is first volume of a wonderful collection of the tales of Hans Christian Andersen that I already have seen and I intended to buy some day little by little, in fact I have volume 4th illustrated by Pablo Auladell which I’ll post tomorrow. (Some of the others I plan to buy are illustrated by Carmen Segovia and Gabriel Pacheco). They are a treasure! There is also a collection of the tales of the Grimm Brothers. But the one I saw yesterday I’ve never have seen before and the illustrator is one of my very favorites, Elena Odriozola! I just had to take it with me! There were only 3 left.

Here are some images of it, is published by the Publishing House Anaya (Spain) in a beautiful hard cover that gives the feeling of a real book to it, if you know what I mean. I Hope you can have it in your hands to feel it and see all the wonderful illustrations inside of it!

Good week to all!
