Mary DePalma es la autora de este y otros maravillosos libros, sus ilustraciones en tecnica mixta añaden un estilo postmoderno a este cuento de una amistad sin igual. Espiando una cosa redonda y naranja en el piso, un pajarito decide que es un huevo y se sienta sobre el. Un chango que ve lo que sucede se burla del pajaro y le quita el "huevo" para a continuacion y horror del pajarito, comenzar a pelarlo. El chango le explica que no es un huevo sino una naranja que despues comparten juntos. El turno viene del pajarito a enseñarle una leccion al chango cuando le muestra el truco de plantar las semillas de la naranja las cuales riegan juntos y les traeran muchas mas naranjas! Solo con una docena de enunciandos la autora describe la historia, sus palabras son tan cuidadosamente elegidas que evocan cada escena vividamente.
Su trabajo se basa en una convinacion de verde, azul, naranja y toques de negro; espacios blancos flotan por doquier; retazos de papel periodico y mapas añaden textura y sus interesantes perspectivas le dan a este libro todos los elementos necesarios para ser maravilloso! Mary DePalma is the author of this and many other amazing books, her mixed-media illustrations add a quirky, postmodern flair to this tale of an unlikely friendship. Spying a round orange curiosity on the ground, a little bird determines that it is an egg and sits on it. A monkey laughs at her, takes it from her and, to her horror, proceeds to peel it. The monkey explains that this is not an egg but an orange, which he then shares with her. The bird in turn teaches the monkey a new trick when she plants one of the seeds, which they water and tend together, eventually yielding "many, many oranges." Just two dozen sentences sketch the tale, but DePalma's carefully chosen words vividly evoke each scene.
Her artwork relies on a convination of green, blue, orange and touches of black. Spare, airy white spaces; scraps of newsprint and maps add textural interest; and her interesting perspectives makes a complete picture for this book to be wonderful!
